Background:
Queen Eleanor's was founded in 1939 as a secondary school. It became a primary school in the 1960's and achieved its current status in 1993. It is situated in Onslow village on the edge of Guildford, and facilities include 'spacious' buildings 'extensively' refurbished for use as a junior school, 'large' playgrounds, a playing field, an environmental studies area and a heated swimming pool. The school aims to create a 'happy caring community in which all are valued as individuals'. The curriculum is broad and balanced, giving 'support and challenge in appropriate measure'. The school is proud of its academic achievements, as well as the 'high standards' reached in sporting activites and creative arts. The school has 'strong links' with the parish church, All Saints, Guildford Cathedral and Surrey University, as well as the local community. The school holds an annual Lent Appeal, raising money in 1999 for Help the Aged, and an annual Christmas collection for the Children's Society. 'Full co-operation' is encouraged between staff and parents, in the belief that 'education is a partnership between home and school'.
