Background:

Opened in 1973, the school is situated in a 'quiet residential' area on the edge of Epsom, close to Epsom Common. Structural changes in 1998-99 have provided the school with 'well equipped' classrooms, a library and a 'dedicated' computer suite. Stamford Green spans six acres with playing fields and two playgrounds. It is 'undisturbed by traffic noises'. Environmental awards and the Parent-Teacher Association have supported the school's ambitious ground development programme, which is considered a 'major ongoing initiative'. Staff, governors and parents are 'committed' to children becoming 'independent learners and thinkers'. A 'wide' range of club activites is provided including sport, music, drama, chess and bridge. Their sports activities include football, netball, cross-country and athletics. Through the Children's School Council the pupils have involved themselves in raising funds for charities in the Third World, research for children's diseases and a local hospital for children. 'Good' relationships have been established with the local community of churches, a local football club, the fire service and police. Recently links have been made with a local business to 'enhance' the children's design and technology studies.
