Background:
The school opened in 1940 in countryside between Guildford and Leatherhead Surrey. The school benefits from excellent facilities developed over several years, including a community sports centre, a purpose-built sixth form block and recently a fourth information and communication technology suite, a cyber cafe and new specialist science facilities following the schools designation as a science college. The school has a broad balanced national curriculum, which is followed by all students, including two languages until the end of Key Stage 3 in German, Spanish or French. An extensive extra-curricular programme includes sport, music, art, drama, science and mathematics. The school competes successfully at local and county level in major sports such as netball, hockey, rugby, football, tennis, athletics and cricket. Specialist science college status. Over-subscribed, with 1.2 applications per place. Artsmark; Artsmark Gold (2002); Sportsmark; Sportsmark Gold; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award (2002).
