Background:

The Winston Churchill School, opened in 1967, is set in pleasant, spacious grounds on the edge of St. John's village, easily reached from Knaphill, Bisley, West End, Brookwood, Pirbright and other surrounding areas and well served by public transport. It is a large 11 to 16 Comprehensive School of nearly 1600 pupils situated on the outskirts of Woking in Surrey. A wide range of extra-curricular activities including homework clubs takes place after school to which everyone is welcome, as well as Extension Courses in Latin and Spanish. The PE department provides the opportunity for participation in a variety of physical activities within a structured, enjoyable learning experience. In addition, the department develops the appreciation and evaluation of movement, individual and team skills and of the specific rules involved in each activity. The school has extensive PE facilities, which are used by the community outside school hours: a large sports hall, a gymnasium / dance studio, fitness suite, four changing rooms, a community lounge, a floodlit artificial turf pitch, a floodlit multi-purpose area and a large field used mainly for football, rugby and athletics. The school aims to create an exciting and challenging working environment.
