Background:
Stepgates Community School is housed in the centre of Chertsey in Surrey. Additions to the school buildings in 1994 came almost a century after it was founded, with the extensions providing a specialist language support unit for children with language disorders, and a new hall. The grounds contain a quiet area and an adventure playground. A music room offers pupils the opportunity to compose and perform music, and they can learn to play the recorder. Extra-curricular activities include recorder group, football and netball. The school has a swimming pool on-site, enabling all children to have swimming lessons once a week. There are links with the local church and with a senior citizens' home, and regular fundraising takes place for various charities. There is also an after-school club and a Pre-School on site.
