Background:

Waverley Abbey Junior School was founded as a church-aided school in 1952, since when it has developed from a secondary school to a middle school, and was finally established as a junior school in 1994. Over the last 10 years the number of children on roll has increased and the school has been over-subscribed for the last six years. The school is set in nine hectares of land on the outskirts of the village of Tilford in Surrey, and serves a cluster of villages and parishes south of Farnham. Its latest development is the installation of interactive whiteboards into all classrooms with broadband connectivity. This supports the 30 station computer suite also with broadband connectivity. Many pupils learn musical instruments and play in the 48 piece school orchestra, and more than 100 are members of the school choirs. School teams are currently District Champions in swimming, athletics, soccer and rugby. The gymnastics team represented Great Britain in the World Gymnaestrada in Goteburg in 1999, whilst the cricket team became Surrey Hard Ball Champions at the Oval in 1999 and 2002, and also became Surrey Kwik Cricket Champions twice, in 2002 and 2003. The school has links with the local community, the village cricket club, All Saints Church and the Tilford Drama Group, as well as with schools in Kenya, Australia and France.
