Background:

The Raleigh School was opened in 1957 and has grown to become a large school with many age groups over-subscribed. The school is set in a semi-rural area in a socially advantaged area. Most children come from traditional family units and have supportive parents. The school and staff are committed to raising standards in teaching and learning. The school has been recognised three times as an 'Investors in People' which it views as confirmation of the high standard of service it provides for adults and children alike. Teaching staff and parents both support children's well-rounded growth by providing extra-curricular activities. Pupils participate in inter-school sporting competitions and musical events. There is an annual music production in which all pupils are involved. Specialist teachers visit the school and offer tuition in brass, violin, clarinet and flute. There is a school choir. The school's Spotlight Committee and parent questionnaires provide the opportunity for the school and parents to share ideas. Raleigh School aims to provide a happy, secure and stimulating environment where children and adults may find appropriate support and positive attitudes. The school has achieved Artsmark Status, Activemark, Football Charter, Quality Mark in Basic Skills Award and Healthy Schools Award. The school aims to provide 'Quality in a Caring Community' and also it aims to engender an enthusiasm for life and love of learning; to help pupils to develop their full potential, whether intellectually, physically, morally or creatively and to lead each pupil to an understanding of his or her own individuality.
