Background:

Warren Mead Junior School was founded in 1939, since when the buildings have been improved upon and added to. The school now boasts a 'well-stocked' non-fiction library, a brand new multi-purpose computer suite and a music room in addition to classrooms and a hall. Every classroom is fitted with an interactive white board, encouraging ICT into all areas of the curriculum. There is also a heated indoor swimming pool, separate fiction libraries for each year group, and internet and e-mail facilities in every teaching base. The school is proud of its 'committed staff' and attributes its Investors in People award to their dedication and team approach. Every year group is set by ability in maths and English with the help of specialist teachers. The school has 'a strong tradition' of musical activity and a specialist music teacher encourages pupil participation in a variety of musical activities. A 'wide range' of other extra-curricular activities is available. The school has had 'particular success in sport and chess. Children are encouraged to respect each others needs and this idea is reinforced by support for local, national and international charities including the annual Banstead Rotary Association sponsored walk. The school works closely with local schools within the North Downs Confederation of Schools and enjoys particularly close links with Warren Mead Infant School. The school provides, and encourages enjoyment of a balanced and well-rounded curriculum where children learn to exercise judgement and responsibility in matters of morality.
