Background:
Collingwood College was established in 1971 following comprehensive reorganisation and its buildings were extended when it expanded to its present size in 1994. It occupies five buildings on a 30-acre wooded campus about one mile from Camberley and Bagshot. New sixth-form centre opened by the Countess of Wessex, in January 2005. A second phase of building work to provide a sports centre will be completed by 2007. All students study information and communication technology at key stage three and a technology subject at key stage four. All students in key stage four follow a course leading to the award 'The European Computer Driving Licence' (ECDL). The college is an active member of the Surrey Heath 14-19 consortium and is committed to the provision and development of a wide range of vocational options for students in this age group. Students may opt for one of a number of different curriculum pathways according to their ability. Post 16 the college has developed a number of new vocational and academic courses which includes; Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Law and Film Studies. Around 200 students are involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at all levels every year and 150 learn a musical instrument. Regular charity fundraising events are designated by the student council. National Health Promoting School; one of only 20 schools chosen to be involved in a national DfES Project to accelerate learning for students in key stage three science and ICT. Specialist Technology College Status. Investor in People Status (2003). 'Highest standards of attainment in a disciplined and orderly environment'.
