Background:

Opened in 1963 on the Hermitage Woods Estate, facilities at the school include a new ICT suite opened in 1999, a 'well-equipped' hall, 'well-stocked' library, a large field for games, an environmental area with a pond and garden and ramps to facilitate disabled access to the buildings. The Hermitage emphasises the importance of extra-curricular activities to enrich the curriculum and each week peripatetic music teachers visit the school to teach brass, flute, cello, violin, clarinet, percussion, keyboard and guitar. Pupils interested in sports are catered for with lunch time and after-school football, netball, rugby, cross-country, running, table tennins, rounders, athletics, basketball and cricket. The school also takes part in Woking schools' competitions and takes advantage of training given by Chobam Rugby and Woking Football Clubs. In addition to this, pupils may join the choir, drama, art, dance or gardening clubs. In 1999, the Hermitage School won the Woking schools district sports, the rounders tournament and the Woking league (local) football, took part in Project 999 and entered its choirs into the Woking music festival. Children are proud of their fundraising for Children in Need, Comic Relief and the NSPCC.
