Background:
The school'stands on the outskirts of the town, facing the picturesque country in the direction towards Weybridge and Woking. Its own surroundings include lawns, gardens, tennis-courts and play-grounds. The playing-field is close by. The school can be reached either by train from Waterloo, there usually being one change, at Weybridge; or by bus from Richmond in one direction, or from Woking in the other.The school is in the process of acquiring Specialist School status in the field of Mathematics and Computing. One of the main benefits for the children will be the introduction of state-of-the-art ICT facilities, with specialist networked rooms, interactive whiteboards, free access to the internet and personal email addresses for all members of the school community.The school has a proud sporting tradition. Teams represent the school in football, rugby, basketball, athletics, cross-county, netball, hockey and rounders. Both boys' and girls' teams have a good record of success in a wide variety of cups and competitions. Music and drama flourish at Salesian and there are plenty of opportunities for students to perform in concerts and productions. There is a wealth of trips and visits for students to attend from art galleries and museums to skiing and Duke of Edinburgh. Students are also encouraged to take part in the clubs and activities which go on at lunch times and after school. Many students also get involved with extra curricular activities, for example the debating and public speaking society. There are many fundraising activities including the rag day, a sleep-out for 'crisis' and a 24 hour fast. The school'set out to create a joyful atmosphere in which the dignity and worth of each pupil and member of staff is recognised, developed and safeguarded. It strives to affirm, develop and challenge the abilities of each. The school is concerned with the way in which each person matures within the context of the community. The school foster the spiritual, moral and religious development of the pupils and a lively celebration of prayer.
